Balquhidder Forestry Development

Waitpinga, South Australia Adelaide Blue Gum

Streams in the Fleurieu Peninsula feature critically endangered wetland communities. The wetlands are protected under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act. When planning the Balquhidder forestry plantation, Adelaide Blue Gum sought advice on the impacts of forestry on the water regime of these wetlands.

Ecological Associates, together with groundwater and surface water hydrologists, modelled the effect of forestry on wetland water regime. Guidelines were developed to protect wetland water regimes from potential forestry impacts.

The proposal was referred as a matter of National Environmental Significance under the EPBC Act, using information from Ecological Associates investigations.
